ICE Raids Workplace, Many “Collateral Arrests” Are made

Since President Trump’s inauguration, large-scale workplace raids led by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), have become increasingly common. In fact, from Trump’s inauguration through the end of the 2017, ICE arrests rose 40% according to reports.  During workplace raids, federal agents enter businesses with information that a worker has violated criminal or immigration laws.  However, agents are not limited to arresting the originally targeted person.  We often hear of agents making large-scale swooping arrests of immigrant employees. Some people arrested may have criminal convictions, but many don’t. In fact, the number of people arrested for their mere presence in the US, doubled since 2016.

Many lawyers and advocates have likened these workplace raids to unlawful racial profiling, and believe ICE is “arresting everyone first and asking questions later.”  What are your thoughts on these large-scale raids?  Do they constitute racial profiling? Let’s discuss! Share your thoughts with us in comment section below.
