Is “Big Brother” is Watching Your Car?

Is “Big Brother” is Watching Your Car?

It appears that ICE is now watching our cars.  The Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency officially signed a contract last week, giving agents full access to a license plate recognition database. This contract gives ICE access to not only billions of license plate records, but also an alleged real-time location tracking system. The source of the database remains unknown, however, it’s rumored to be a company by the name of “Vigilant Solutions.” According to news reports, Vigilant Solutions has a massive vehicle-tracking network that can generate as many as 100 million sightings per month, each tagged with a date, time, and GPS coordinates of the sighting.  Reports claim that ICE agents will be able to perform a license plate search and receive a detailed record of that vehicle’s whereabouts over the past five years … not to mention the real-time location notifications.

ICE Officials have denied “seeking to build a license plate reader” or “collect or contribute any data to public or private databases.” ICE claims the data will only be used to support its ongoing investigations.

What does this mean for the public?  What do you think?  Where are our vehicles being tagged? Tolls?  Private readers along the highways?  We wonder… and we want to hear from you! All opinions are respected on this platform, but please, be respectful. Let’s discuss! Share your thoughts with us in comment section below.
